Morocceau 2008 - Project updates direct from Ma'adid!

Day: 6 5 4 3 2 1

Thursday 9 October

After an early 7am breakfast, Mike, DB and Rachel headed to Merzouga to meet with the doctors to try and arrange a visit to a group of nomadic people living remotely in the desert, and to learn how we may be able to assist them in their medical requirements. Ya’oub accompanied us.

On arriving at the Palmerie, we parked the car just in time to see John, Chris, and Jon coming back in on camels with Nick walking behind. It was raining and cold, and the camels sat around outside and looked totally wretched.

We headed to the medical centre and had a discussion with the doctor there, who was enthusiastic to involve us in the area, and the meeting conluded with us returning on the following monday morning to go out into the desert accompanying a vaccination program, to meet some of the nomadic people and to see how they live.

Back in Arfoud, Mike organised a group to go to one of the schools and complete the roof. The frame was completed and more than strong enough, however due to limited supplies of perspex sheets in the same colour, the roof was a mixture of green and yellow - but it was good functional roof and that was our objective completed.

Mike took Alex and Jose on a familiarization of the area, the schools, medical centre and wells. They He ran into Ali Baba and took the chance to hand over some medication that he had earlier promised for one of Mr Baba’s children who was suffering from an eye infection.

Nick, DB, Jose and Mike emptied out and checked the contents of the van, in preparation for the CRM who were visiting later in the afternoon to see what we had brought them. It was an impressive array of equipment.

Abderrahim turned up with one of the Croissant Rouge doctors who also had a private practice in town. They were equally impressed with all of what we had brought. We agreed to pack the van back up and drive it into town and deposit all of the medical equipment and supplies at the Croissant Rouge store room from where it would later be distributed.
